“Michael was a fantastic photographer for our wedding. Calm, professional and unobtrusive, he blended seamlessly into the background of our day and night while at the same time creating an excellent impression with our guests and family. We were completely bowled over by our final images – beautiful shots that captured our guests in their most natural moments and some truly stunning iconic and stylish images that truly represented the best day of our lives.” – Georgina & Matt

Farnborough wedding photography

Georgina & Matt’s Aviator Hotel wedding in Farnborough, Hampshire this summer was a stylish and contemporary affair, but with more than a nod in the direction of years gone by. There’s something romantic and glamorous about old airfields like Farnborough, and watching the small jets take off and land in the fading light put me in mind of Mad Men and the golden age of flying.

When I first met Georgina and Matt they said they’d thought about more traditional venues, but fell in love with the idea of a wedding at the Aviator Hotel because it reflected their own tastes: modern, elegant and stylish. It’s true that any couple choosing to have an Aviator Hotel wedding will love its blend of the contemporary and mid-20th century design. The propeller-shaped hotel definitely wowed the wedding guests with its Guggenheim Museum-style stair well and sweeping lines, and gave me a lots of opportunities to some great shots.

Documentary wedding photography

Their special day was incredibly relaxed and joyful, but it was also very moving, with Georgina’s 12-year-old daughter giving a tear-filled reading during the ceremony, along with both mums. Then it was straight out onto the terrace for drinks and canapés, overlooking the famous airfield.

As a documentary wedding photographer I love the challenge of adapting to any environment in the pursuit of telling a story, and creating interesting and beautiful pictures. I wanted the images to reflect Georgina and Matt’s tastes and make the most of the architecture of the Aviator Hotel. That day we went from bright sun to dark interiors and then disco lights. It was a lot of fun to shoot, helped in no small part by the lovely Georgina and Matt. I hope you like the results.
If you’re looking for a documentary wedding photographer to tell the story of your Aviator Hotel wedding, or any other location, I’d love you to get in touch.
