about me

HELLO

I like taking pictures that make people smile

I’m Michael, and I live near Brighton in Sussex with my young family. I was a writer and journalist for more than 10 years, and now I’m a documentary wedding photographer – and I enjoy every minute of it.

I love the magic of storytelling, whether it’s using words or pictures. But unlike with words, visual stories can be told immediately and with such power. I learnt this as the editor of photography magazine, working with some of the world’s best documentary and street photographers. They taught me the importance of observing and anticipating, and I have brought this approach to my wedding photography. And what better occasion is there than a wedding to tell a story of joy and beauty and humour?

Oh, and talking of humour…you might have noticed from my pictures that it’s a big part of how I see things. Along with beauty and light, it’s what drives me a photographer.

A STILL IMAGE THAT CAPTURES SOMETHING AUTHENTIC – A BEAUTIFUL SCENE, A LOVING GESTURE, A STRONG EMOTION – HAS A MAGIC THAT NO OTHER MEDIUM HAS. AND WEDDINGS CONTAIN ALL OF THESE THINGS AND MORE, SO WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO STAGE ANYTHING? AS A DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER, YOU JUST NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SEE, WHERE TO STAND AND WHEN TO PUSH THE BUTTON.
DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

My approach

First and foremost, I’m a people photographer. I document weddings by observing and anticipating what’s going on in front of me. Without interference I create hundreds of candid, authentic pictures – and I hope that it will be these images that you’ll treasure most in the years to come.

I’ll blend in, a bit like a guest with cameras, and unobtrusively photograph all the fun and emotion of your special day. And this means you can simply enjoy getting married without feeling like you have to pose every few minutes. Of course, I’m also very happy to take a few group photos if you want them, and ones of the two of you, but I’ll do in a very relaxed way. No cheesy poses, I promise.
