Summer was still a few days away when Sally and Richard celebrated their Holy Trinity Church wedding blessing in Crockham Hill, Kent, near Sevenoaks
Their sumptuous home reception in a magical setting overlooking the Kent Weald was a real joy and honour to photograph. It was late spring and their family and friends were entertained in the stunning garden that was now in full bloom.
This corner of Kent, a few miles south of Westerham, is steeped in history. Chartwell, Winston Churchill’s family seat, is just a stone’s throw away. Holy Trinity Church in Crockham Hill, where Octavia Hill is buried, founder of the National Trust, is a handsome church for a wedding, and the village itself is on the old Roman Road from London to Lewes.

After the ceremony, in which Sally and Richard’s dog Stanley took on the unofficial role of, er, ‘best dog’, the children played with the giant garden games and tucked into ice cream served from an old-fashioned ice cream cart. Meanwhile the adults were serenaded by one of the best jazz band I’ve ever heard at a wedding.
As a documentary wedding photographer, it was a visual feast and I was spoilt for choice. Being invited into someone’s home to photograph their wedding is a treat and an honour. I hope the pictures below convey the responsibility that comes with this.
